Village Voice piece

Check out this week's Village Voice for an illustration I did for for a book review by Sarah DiGregorio of the book "Waste: Uncovering the Global Food Scandal" by Tristram Stuart. The review is about the myriad, at times whimsical ways in which the Western world wastes food (ie. farmers forced to throw out thousands of carrots because they are curved and not straight), and the devastating effect this has on developing countries and the environment.

SCBWI 2009 Summer Conference

I've just wrapped up four days at the jam-packed, star-studded 2009 conference of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators.  Below are a few pics from the event's big party, the Blue Moon Ball...
With Max, aka Sara Wilson Etienne, writer-extraordinaire.

Fabulously costumed blue ladies of the night.
Yoko enjoying some California wine.
A full blue moon...
And below are some rough sketches from the actual conference...

If anyone has sketches from the conference, let me know! I'm compiling sketches in a new blog.

Raz Raz Raz 2 Opening

The opening went great!  Here are some pics, including my new nesting dolls (inspired by different decades), the crowd,  my wall, myself and my pirate brother, who was dressed to match his photographs, and my mom, hamming it up with the guitarist.  The show will be up until June 14th, and there will be events every Saturday of the month, so come check it out!

Society of Illustrators 50 Featuring My Artwork

I'm honored to be included in Illustrators 50, which is now available in bookstores and on Amazon. My piece is a zine chronicling Liz Taylor's seven husbands that I completed for a show curated by Mark Todd and Esther Pearl Watson at Junc gallery a while back. It's in the sequential category. The book looks really beautiful and is filled with some great work -- definitely worth checking out!
