"Raz Raz Raz" at Ojai Art Center

I'm very excited for my upcoming show at the Ojai Art Center with my mother, Ojai artist Sylvia Raz (whose work is on the far right) and my brother, LA-based photographer Alan Raz (whose work is in the center. I'm on the far left.) Read the press release on the Society of Illustrators of LA blog.

Opening reception Sunday, September 7, 1-3 pm

Ojai Art Center
113 S. Montgomery Street
Ojai, CA 93023
805-646-0117
Show runs from September 6 through October 2
.
My work for this show was inspired by tarot cards. I explored the narrative in tarot known as "The Fool's Journey." The story implies that we all begin as "The Fool" - open and optimistic - and as we go through life, we're influenced by various forces, both positive and negative, embodied by the archetypal characters in each card.
.
For those of you who haven't been, Ojai is a beautiful town south of Santa Barbara. The Ojai Art Center is a great community resource with a warm gallery space. I hope to see you there!

ICON 5

I'm back from a great trip to New York, including four jam-packed days at the Illustration Conference. Some highlights for me included participating in the Road Show, getting a thoughtful guided tour of the New York Times magazine, and having an informative "topical lunch" with Edel Rodriguez. There were many great speakers -- highlights included Gary Panter, Mitch Nash, Ina Saltz, and Keri Smith. But the best part was being able to catch up with old friends, make new ones, reconnect with former teachers, and meet some of my illustration heroes.

Love Birds

Recently I created artwork for my brother's wedding invitation. My sister-in-law, Michelle, is a print production manager at Rapp Collins, and had a lot of great input. She also had the help of awesome designer and fellow Art Center grad, Danielle Perkins. The imagery is of a tree of life with flowers, pomegranites and two love birds on top. The trunk is meant to symbolize the union of the couple.
